The Regional Secretary for Health ensured today that primary health care is being fully provided in Lajes do Pico at the premises of the old Basic Education and Secondary School of this municipality.
 
"We have created in this building, with adaptation works, the conditions so that patients would have access to all services in the same schedules without causing constraints, which is, in fact, happening," emphasised Rui Luís. He spoke at the end of a visit to the premises where the services of Lajes do Pico Health Centre are temporarily installed while the remodelling works are running.
 
The transfer of services to the old school took place in October. All services were installed except for the Radiology service, which remains in operation at the Health Centre premises.
 
The Secretary for Health also visited the remodelling works of the Health Centre, where he informed that, if there are no setbacks, the works should be completed early next year.
 
"I had the opportunity to visit the works and to see on the spot that they are taking place as scheduled. These works are extremely important for the 5,000 inhabitants of Lajes do Pico," said Rui Luís.

The intervention, representing an investment of 850 thousand Euros, includes, besides the remodelling of the building, the improvement in the provision of care and an adequate response to continuing care needs.

The project also provides for the general rehabilitation of inpatient services and the creation of a physical therapy centre, including a gym and individual boxes, changing rooms, sanitary facilities and showers.
 
Moreover, the intervention will also cover meal service areas, outpatient services and a dental office.
 
"This intervention towards the improvement of services, which falls within the rehabilitation works in the health network infrastructures, will be decisive for the future quality certification process of this Health Centre," said Rui Luís.
