Following the bad weather that has affected the archipelago over the last days, the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) announces that several situations caused by strong winds and rough sea occurred by the end of Sunday.
Thus, the section of the road between the Lombo Gordo viewpoint (municipality of Nordeste) and Água Retorta (municipality of Povoação) on São Miguel Island was closed to traffic due to the fall of several trees on the road. Given this situation, the traffic between Nordeste and Povoação was redirected to Salga, Burguete and Furnas.
The road in the area of Areia Larga in the municipality of Madalena do Pico was closed due to the accumulation of debris brought by the sea.
The sea flooded some houses in the area of Terreiros in village of São Mateus - municipality of Angra do Heroísmo - on Terceira Island. Moreover, the road in the area of Villa Maria located in the same village was also closed, as a precautionary measure, for the reason that the sea destroyed the coastline protection wall.
As several houses were flooded in the area of Pasteleiro in the city of Horta, eight men and two vehicles of the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures were assigned to the affected area as well as six firefighters and three fire vehicles.
Furthermore, drivers were alerted for the presence of debris brought by the sea in some sections of the road in the area of Pisão – municipality of Lagoa – on São Miguel Island. There is a machine of the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures to clean the area.
The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service, the members of the Regional Secretariat for Science, Technology and Infrastructures and of the Civil Protection Services of Povoação are also monitoring the effects of bad weather in the Ribeira Quente Port on the island of São Miguel.
