The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Department Service offers Basic Life Support course

The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Department Service offers Basic Life Support course

On the 28th of January, at the Pavilhão das Portas do Mar, in Ponta Delgada, one hundredth and twenty trainees will participate in the III Mass Training in Basic Life Support (BLS) course, organised by the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Department Service (SRPCBA).

This course, which takes place between 08:30 and 13:00 hours, aims to teach people how to act if confronted with someone who experiences cardiovascular arrest. Therefore, it is recommended not only for health-care professionals but to the public in general.

To know what information to transmit to the 112 European emergency telephone service and how to initiate BLS procedures until professional help arrives are some of the skills that will be trained in this practical training course.

Training will be provided by 12 SRPCBA professional instructors that specialise in pre-hospital emergencies. Subjects covered include the Basic Life Support Algorithm, Compressions and Insufflations, Lateral Safety Position or PLS and Clearing of Airways.

During the training process, trainees will utilise a complex multimedia system so that everyone is able to visualise beforehand the training exercises.

This SRPCBA initiative is a part of the training programme that the Prevention, Training and Sensitization Division has developed with the aim of teaching citizens how to perform automatically basic life support techniques in emergencies.

Anyone interested in attending the course should contact the Prevention, Training and Sensitization Division of the Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Department Service.
