Civil Protection: intensity III earthquake felt in Angra do Heroísmo


The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) informs that, according to the Azores Seismological Monitoring Centre (CIVISA), an earthquake was registered on August 18 at 10:35 AM local time. The epicentre was located about 1 km NNW of Angra do Heroísmo, Terceira Island.

According to the information released, the earthquake, level III in Modified Mercalli Scale, was felt in Angra do Heroísmo.

No property or personal damages have been registered so far.

The SRPCBA and CIVISA  will continue to monitor the evaluation of situation. New releases will be issued when necessary.
