Civil Protection Services expand Basic Life Support training programmes due to overwhelming participation of the population

The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Department Services (SRPCBA) provided an extra day of Basic Life Support training on the island of São Miguel due to the overwhelming participation of the population.

According to SRPCBA, the number of applicants for the III Mass Training in Basic Life Support, scheduled for the 28th of February, has now surpassed two hundred. This lead to programming o another training session, which will take place on the 1st of Marc, the International Day of Civil Protection.

Consequently, the application period for this programme was extended until the 13th of February.

The III and IV Mass Training in Basic Life Support will take place in Pavilhão do Mar, at Portas do Mar, in the city of Ponta Delgada, between 08:30hrs and 13:30hrs. Fourteen instructors and 240 students will partake in this training programme.

These training sessions seek to teach people to act appropriately when faced with a cardio-vascular arrest. Hence, such training is recommended not only for health-care professionals but also to citizens in general.

Some of the practical techniques to be trained are: how to transmit pertinent and adequate information when telephoning to the European emergency number (112) and how to initiate BLS proceedings prior to the arrival of professional health-care help.

Training will also be provided in the domains of the Advanced Life Support Algorithm, Compressions and Insufflations, Lateral Positioning and clearing of airwaves.

All participants will receive the Basic Life Support manual and the respective participation certificate.
