Outbreak of flu didn’t attack the Azores

The outbreak of flu that is happening in the Mainland didn’t attack the Azores, being registered a search of the health units of the Region due to this pathology contented by isolated cases.

The information was given by a spokesman of the Regional Directorate for Health, the doctor Luís Brito de Azevedo.

As he said, data gathered in the Azorean hospitals and health centres indicate that, in the Region, the usual outbreak of seasonal flu didn’t happen, being that the "peak" of the grippal activity in the Azores happens, for rule, in January.

In this moment, in the health units of the Region there were only registered isolated cases, it secured Brito de Azevedo, advancing that the institutions of the Regional Health Service did a great effort in the vaccination against the flu in the risk population groups.

This vaccination included, in special way, people with more than 65 years old residing in institutions, bearers of chronic diseases of the lungs, of the heart, of the kidneys and of the liver and of other pathologies that reduce the resistance to the infections.

Brito de Azevedo added that the health institutions of the Azores are in conditions of giving answer to any abnormal situation that eventually comes to appear.
