Inhabitants of S. Miguel with “traveller’s appointments” since October
The residents in the island of S. Miguel included by the Azores’ Regional Health Service (SRS) that wish to travel for destinations like Central America, Caribbean, South America or countries of Africa and Asia have, since October, a service of specific appointments.
The “traveller’s appointments” of the Island of São Miguel will be guaranteed by the Health Unit of Lagoa, situated in Rua Francisco Amaral de Almeida, happening weekly, on Wednesdays, from 14 o’clock to 17.30 o’clock, being able to be marked every day from nine till 15 o’clock.
This appointment has as aim to inform and to advise the user about the preventive measures to adopt before, during and after the travel, as are the vaccination, preventive medication for malaria, individual hygiene and cares to have with the water and the food, namely.
Informations will be supplied, equally, about the medical aid and security in the country of destination and advising on the pharmacy that the traveller must take with him.
There will be effectuated, also, an evaluation of the conditions of health of the traveller, namely pregnant women, children, elderly, people with chronic diseases under medication, among others.
The traveller’s appointment still includes the administration of vaccines, including that of the yellow fever and issued the respective international certificate.
Coordinated by the Delegate of Health of the Island of São Miguel, the doctor Mário Freitas, and supported by the Health Center of Ponta Delgada, the traveller’s appointment is integrated in the Unity of International Health of the Authority of Health of the Island of São Miguel, being guaranteed specialists doctors - one in Public Health and two in General and Familiar Medicine, with the support of three elements of the nursing team.
