Increase in the number of public health doctors goes through training, says Regional Director for Health

 
The Regional Director for Health stated today in Ponta Delgada that the shortage of public health doctors is being addressed with training in order to attract more doctors to the Azores.
 
"We have few public health doctors. It is a serious problem that we are trying to solve. Last year, we managed that the training accreditation of the Region by the Portuguese Medical Association," revealed Tânia Cortez. She spoke at the Symposium of the Public Health Unit, adding that this training accreditation was awarded to São Miguel Island Health Unit in the specialty of Health Public in May 2017.
 
"It is clear that this process will have to be carried out in collaboration with other institutions, namely the Ricardo Jorge Institute and the National School of Public Health, with the aim pf maintaining these professionals here," said the Regional Director.
 
The symposium included the presentation of the results achieved in the scope of food quality, nutritional observatory and training in several contexts.
 
For Tânia Cortez, this symposium evidences the work developed over three years, in addition to promoting health and avoiding illness. According to her, "these are the data that allow us to make decisions in health."
 
The seminars were organised by the first Public Health Unit established in the Region within São Miguel Island Health Unit.
