ON Thursday, the Regional Secretary for the Presidency, speaking in the Parliament of the Azores,s aid that the Experimental Observatory Pico-NARE is an important scientific infrastructure for studying the climate of the North Atlantic and is therefore a "central project" for the archipelago.
The Pico-NARE observatory is presently located on the second biggest island of the Azores and it is pa part of an international research project that seeks to study the impact of pollutants emitted by North America and Europe on the North Atlantic.
André Bradford said that the fact that this observatory is located in Pico demonstrates that "the brand Azores" is well divulged and that this is the result of the active participation of the Region in European
research networks.
He underlined that, in addition to Pico island, the islands of Graciosa and Santa Maria will also be associated to research projects in which national and foreign institutions participate.
He added that in the near future the Regional Government of the Azores intends to move forward and establish technological parks. The project for the tech-park on São Miguel island has been approved and it will cost around 30 million euros.
