Over one hundred students will participate in the celebrations of “Europe Day” to be held on the island of Flores on Thursday, an initiative of the Regional Government which is included in the programme of the “European Region of the year 2010.”

The celebrations begin in Santa Cruz das Flores at 9:30 AM with the contest “Europe Quiz – the Azores and the European Union” which will count upon the participation of the winning teams of the multimedia contest “Azores, where Europe goes further.” This contest is open to all secondary school students of the archipelago.

The solemn session to celebrate Europe Day is scheduled for 11 AM at the Hall of the “Os Minhocas” Sports Group in Santa Cruz das Flores and will be attended by the Regional Under Secretary for External Cooperation and European Affairs on behalf of the President of the Government.

The celebration programme also includes the unveiling of a commemorative plaque in Fajã Grande, Lajes at 6 PM which consists in a symbolic act of Azorean youth taking place on the westernmost end of Europe.

Furthermore, this event will be celebrated with several leisure activities and gatherings among students, the performance of the University Tuna “TA691,” the display of the best works of the multimedia contest “Azores, where Europe goes further” and the delivery of prizes to the winners of the aforementioned contest, which includes a trip to Brussels and a visit to the EU institutions.
