Government of the Azores joins European Researchers' Night

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, joins the European Researchers' Night that will take place Friday, September 29, at EXPOLAB in Lagoa from 4 PM to 12 AM.

The European Researchers' Night is an initiative funded by the European Commission that takes place simultaneously in various institutions throughout Europe. It is primarily intended to celebrate science and bring researchers closer to citizens in an informal, recreational and educational manner.

According to the President of the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, "when the Government decided to join this initiative, it has strengthened its commitment to the concept of Citizen Science."

Bruno Pacheco stressed that the European Researchers' Night "ensures the involvement of the Azorean community at different age levels with science, in general, and with research, in particular, insofar as it provides the scientific community with an opportunity to make citizens acquainted with the work developed in the Region."

The Regional Fund for Science and Technology participates in the event with a stand designed to disseminate its activities, in addition to organising activities targeted to younger audiences with the aim of raising their awareness for research-related activities.

The European Researchers' Night, which is in its 12th edition, will take place this year in 23 locations across the country. In the Azores, the initiative will be held at EXPOLAB and at NONAGON - São Miguel Science and Technology Park.

The event will be open to the public in general and features various activities, such as laboratories, workshops, exhibitions, astronomical observations, lectures and challenges. It counts on the participation of the Azores Science Centres and various regional institutions.
