The Regional Director for Fisheries announced today in Horta that the Regional Government will launch a public tender for the acquisition of four ice machines for fishing ports on Faial, Pico and Terceira.

Speaking to journalists after visiting fishing ports on the island of Faial to verify their operating conditions, Luís Costa added that the new ice machines to be purchased under an application submitted to PROPESCAS will be installed at the fishing ports of Horta (Faial), Madalena (Pico), Praia da Vitória and São Mateus (Terceira).

With regard to the Varadouro and Castelo Branco ports (Faial), the Regional Director revealed that the Government will sign protocols with the respective Village Councils for the cleaning and maintenance of these areas.

Luís Costa also revealed that a new crane will be installed at the Varadouro port. As for Castelo Branco port, the Regional Government in conjunction with the local Village Council will carry out a minor intervention to improve the port's lighting system as this port is also an alternative shelter in case of bad weather conditions.
