The Government of the Azores has awarded a subsidy of 114,639.290 Euros to about one hundred fishers whose vessels are registered on the so-called “Cohesion Islands.”
The decision is part of an Ordinance issued by the Under Secretary of Fishing, published in the Official Journal on Tuesday and it is the result of a regional aid of 32 cents per each kilogram of fresh fish for marketing.
The governmental support, which comprises 358.2 tonnes of fish sold last year, will be divided amongst fishers and shipowners from Santa Maria (45,161.36 Euros), São Jorge (24,189.60 Euros), Graciosa (22,323.49 Euros) and Corvo (5,877.48 Euros).
By Resolution of the Council of the Government, published on January 29, 2009, the Government led by Carlos César implemented the Regional Compensation Scheme to support the marketing of fish products from the Cohesion Islands.
The promoters of applications approved under the Ordinance no.83/2008 of October 8 residing or based on the islands of Santa Maria, São Jorge, Graciosa, Flores and Corvo may benefit from these support measures.
