Government supported the construction of nearly 300 new fishing vessels in the Azores
The start, today, of the construction works of the building of the fish market, refrigerator warehouse and seat of the Fishermen's Association of the Island of Corvo, budgeted for 920 thousand euros, was marked by a ceremony over which the Regional Undersecretary of Fishing presided.
The contract job contemplates the construction of a building from the foundations that will have several services, one that concerns the fish market itself and another one connected with the cold system (refrigeration and freezing).
The new equipment is also going to have system of supply of ice in scale to improve the conservation conditions of the fish, of space for naval repair, of an area meant for the seat of the Association of Fishermen of Corvo, and of a room for cutting the fish to provide better profits to the fishermen of the island.
The undertaking joins the policy developed by the Regional Government of restructuring and requalification of port infrastructures that were in degraded and defective conditions, explained Marcelo Pamplona.
The regional undersecretary of Fishing underlined, still, that the investment done by the Executive passed, also, by supports to the restructuring of the fleet, which allowed the construction of nearly 300 new vessels in the Azores, which favoured an improvement of the work conditions of the fishermen and consequently more security and better conditions of conservation of fish and consequently an increase of profits.
