The Government of the Azores is going to promote from next week, in all the islands of the Region, a set of actions of diffusion of the new incentives system to the renovation of the regional fishing fleet.

With the implementation of the new supports, the Executive of Carlos César intends to maintain the dimension of the regional fleet in balance with the fishing means in the Exclusive Economic Zone of the Azores.

To the aid for the construction of new vessels they there will only be able to present candidature, till the 2nd of December next, the independent workers or enterprises established in the Region that present as compensation of the new construction the exit of the fishing fleet of a vessel in activity.

In some special cases, only the tuna fishing vessels, the vessels exclusively addressed for the fishery of the black swordfish or the vessels of local fishing of the called “Ilhas da Coesão” will be able to be dismissed of the presentation of that compensation.

For the Government, the adoption of this regime will be going to provide making available expressive regional amounts with aim at the development and modernization of the fishing fleet.

The Office of the Regional Undersecretary of Fishing explains that the piscatorial activity, when practised with better vessels, equipments and motors, allows to the fishing professionals better conditions of security, work, working, habitable state and packaging of the fish on board.
