Fisheries Consultative Council analyses important themes for the future of the regional fishing activity
The problematic of the quotas in the framework of the fisheries common policy of the European Union and the point of situation on the plan of renovation of the Azorean fishing fleet constitute central subjects of the meeting of the Fisheries Consultative Council, which takes place since today’s morning in Ponta Delgada.
In the beginning of the meeting, to which presides the regional undersecretary for Fisheries emphasized, in regard to the issue of the renovation of the fleet, that the Region obtained a situation of exception to be able to keep on renewing and building new boats till the end of the validity of the current Strategic Reference Framework.
According to Marcelo Pamplona, other of the issues analysed by the members of the Regional Fisheries Consultative Council has to do with the regulations of the fishing of the blackspot seabream, the revision of the protection areas for the small coastal fishing, the situation of the regional system of fish markets, the improvements projected for the Region’s cold warehouses and the inspection of the fishing in the Azorean seas.
The Regional Fisheries Consultative Council is an organ of consultation of the Government of the Azores, with representation of the Regional Administration, sea authority, fishing associations and association of buyers and investigators, and that takes the analysis of the guiding lines as main functions for the sector and the gathering of opinions on the development of the fishing activity.
