Regional Government promotes dissemination of Incentives for Research in Business Context on Faial Island

The Regional Director for Science and Technology stressed the importance of a “more permanent involvement between companies and the scientific system,” pointing out the relevance of the Transfer + initiative dissemination sessions that will take place on all Azores islands.

The session held today in Horta was focused on the "Blue Economy," during which the measures and financial tools available to support the business and non-business entities of the Azores Scientific and Technological System were presented. It also included individualised support sessions for companies wishing to submit applications for the notices open under the Azores 2020 Operational Programme.

For Bruno Pacheco, it is “an initiative that embodies the Regional Government's commitment to the implementation of a concerted and integrated strategy towards the creation and systematisation of unification and convergence links between science, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship, with a view to integrating the potential of research and development in its production process.”

“These sessions aim to create a more permanent involvement between companies and the scientific system,” stressed the Regional Director. In this context, he highlighted “the effort that has been devoted in this legislative term in bringing together various stakeholders, with the holding of sessions on several islands, and in providing individualised follow-up to researchers and companies. This initiative is primarily intended to increase the permeability between research, development and innovation and the business fabric.”

The Azores Scientific and Technological System currently has at its disposal a series of financial mechanisms that enable entities to invest in the internationalisation of Research and Development (R&D) units under the implementation of applied research projects in business context. Moreover, it also supports the pursuance of postdoctoral studies at companies, the establishment of permanent research and development centre at companies and in the access to wide range of services simplified format, through the R&D Voucher system.

According to Bruno Pacheco, the Regional Government has been leveraging all programmes and tools at its disposal to ensure increasingly based economic growth on science and technology in the Region, which will render the archipelago more resilient and competitive at the economic, social and environmental level.”

Currently, five lines of financing are available, representing a global allocation of about four million euros.

Under the Transfer+ dissemination sessions, several events will be held on all islands, with planned thematic sessions in the area of Dairy for São Jorge Island and Space for Santa Maria Island.
