Government of the Azores co-organises International Conference on Biodiversity in Brussels

The Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, co-organises the 2nd NetBiome-CSA International Conference "Boosting Cooperation in Biodiversity Research: The NetBiome Roadmap for Outermost Regions and Countries and European Overseas Countries and Territories." The event will be at the European Parliament in Brussels on April 6.

This conference is hosted by MEP Ricardo Serrão Santos, Vice-President on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Sustainable Development. It will focus on the main results of the NetBiome-CSA project, with special emphasis on a document containing strategic policy recommendations and emerging research priorities in the area of biodiversity.

This document is the result of the work carried out over three years in collaboration with more than 150 relevant entities, including companies, NGOs, universities, governments and the civil society.

Coordinated by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Fund for Science and Technology, NetBiome-CSA is funded in one million Euros by the seventh Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development of the European Union. It involves 13 partners, including seven governments, public institutes and development agencies of regions and territories of European tropical and subtropical territories of the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific oceans.

Outermost Regions (ORs) and European Overseas Countries and Territories (OCT) contain about 70% of Europe's diversity of species and, therefore, play an essential role in the European Biodiversity Strategy.

The2nd NetBiome-CSA International Conference will be an opportunity to discuss and strengthen, with experts and policy makers, the next steps for research on biodiversity that can contribute to sustainable development in the Outermost Regions and the European Overseas Countries and Territories.
