Secretary for Education defends teaching career structure equivalent to Mainland Portugal
The Regional Secretary for Education and Training stated in Horta on Wednesday that the teaching career structure in the Azores will be identical to Mainland Portugal, “even to ensure mobility among teachers.”
The idea was defended on Wednesday afternoon at the Legislative Assembly, where Lina Mendes announced the beginning of the negotiation process concerning the establishment of a new career structure in the archipelago.
According to the information provided the Secretary, the government proposal ensures the maintenance of the “teachers’ salaries at the time of transition from one career structure to another.”
Lina Mendes also guaranteed that, under the new career structure, teachers with less years of service will not be placed ahead in the new career ranks.”
These are two principles that “will be assured” in the new career structure, said the Regional Secretary.
Answering to a serried of questions posed to the Government, Lina Mendes revealed that the average number of students per class in the Azores is below 18 and that this average has remained stable in recent years.
