S. Miguel hosts international meeting on Inclusive Education in November
The conclusions of the project on Evaluation of the Inclusive Education in the Azores will be presented on S. Miguel Island in November, during an international meeting that will gather teachers e technicians working in the Education area.
The projected which was created by the Regional Directorate for Education and Training (DREF), by the Universities of the Azores and of Leipzig started in 2007, with the purpose to improve the teaching quality patterns in the Archipelago and to disseminate it at a European context.
The international meeting on “Inclusive Education: Good practices” (Educação Inclusiva: Boas práticas) scheduled for November 14 will be held at the auditorium of the Roberto Ivens Basic Education School in Ponta Delgada.
According to the Regional Secretary for Education and Training, it is an opportunity to analyse the good educational practices implemented in the Region over the last years and simultaneously acknowledge what should be improved.
“Our schools are increasingly becoming inclusive spaces, where difference is no longer a barrier,” Lina Mendes stated, however acknowledging that “there is always room for improvement.” According to the Regional Secretary, the increase of the inclusion levels at Azorean schools are due to the effort of Azorean teachers as well as of all specialised technicians who are involved in the Education sector.
“October 5 marks another World Teachers’ Day, a fair tribute to which I want to join, stressing the effort and dedication that has been demonstrated by the 5,300 teachers working in the Azores. We count upon them to continue the work to improve teaching qualification in the Azores,” stated Lina Mendes.
A DVD containing the good practices at the level of inclusive education presented will be launched during the international meeting and an electronic platform will be presented, counting upon the collaboration of the Regional Directorates for Youth and for Science, Technology and Communication. In addition, the SIMICOLE P project created by Conceição Medeiros to provide a more effective work with deaf students and children with reading difficulties will be presented.
A new book by Susana Margarido will be launched at the same time, a partnership between the DREF and the Regional Directorate for Equality of Opportunities.
