Regional Government invests in the consolidation of entrepreneurial education with training of more teachers

The Regional Director for Youth, Lúcio Rodrigues, stressed today the importance of the "Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success" programme. Throughout these eight editions, it has covered about 19 thousand students from 60 regional schools and provided entrepreneurial training to 301 teachers. This represents an investment over 500 thousand Euros," which are "still consolidating."

Lúcio Rodrigues spoke at the opening session of the initial teacher training, an initiative that marks the beginning of the 8th edition of the "Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success" programme, stressing that, this year, "another 31 teachers from all levels of education will receive entrepreneurial training."

According to the Regional Director for Youth, this programme "benefits students from all socio-economic contexts, because it teaches young people to think outside the box."

"This programme creates opportunities, guarantees social justice, inspires confidence in young people and constitutes the basis for the future growth of the Azorean economy," said the government official.

The Regional Director for Youth stressed that students are "forced to think outside the box, to fail and to persist." These experiences "inspire young people to become creative, inventive and innovative."

Moreover, Lúcio Rodrigues pointed out that "entrepreneurship values skills and talents that, normally, could be regarded as inappropriate behaviour in the context of conventional classroom, guiding them to success," said Lúcio Rodrigues.

According to the Regional Director for Youth, the "Entrepreneurial Education: The Road to Success" programme is an "important ally of the Regional Government in terms of public youth policies by the encouraging the creation of self-employment and contributing to the Region's active employment and economic policy in the long-term."

This training course aims to explain the teachers' understanding of entrepreneurship and to present the educational contents to be worked out with the students throughout the school year.

The "Entrepreneurial Education: The Path to Success" programme is an initiative developed by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorates for Youth and Education.
