The Secretary for Education and Training committed to on Wednesday to deepen the collaboration with the Diocese of São Tomé and Príncipe at the level of educational software and teacher training.
After an audience with the Bishop of São Tomé, D. Manuel António Mendes dos Santos, Lina Mendes said to the journalists that the meeting enabled the assessment of the needs and the collection of data so that the region may provide a better and adequate response.
“The meeting had the purpose of clarifying needs and evaluating the possibility of response,” Lina Mendes said, adding that the Azores might include the sending of educational software, materials produced in the archipelago under the regional curriculum and the training of the teachers who teach in São Tomé.
According to the Regional Secretary, the Azores have collaborated with this country for over a decade.
D. Manuel António Mendes dos Santos has been the bishop of São Tomé and Príncipe since 2007. The Diocese of Sao Tome and Principe was created on November 3, 1534 and comprises 12 parishes located in a territory with a total of 155 thousand inhabitants, of whom 81.2% are Catholics.
