NetBiome-CSA project to start with meeting in the Azores

The consortium in charge for the implementation of the NetBiome-CSA project, led by the Regional Fund for Science of the Government of the Azores, will meet in Ponta Delgada on July 9 and 10. This event marks the beginning of this European project.

NetBiome-CSA involves, among other partners, seven insular regions located in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. This project aims to strengthen European cooperation in the field of research for a sustainable and smart management of tropical and subtropical biodiversity in outermost regions and territories.

Funded by one of the EU Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development in the amount of one million Euros, this project takes up "the challenge of mobilising the entities with potential interest in this field - knowledge institutions, companies, government and civil society - to face the challenges awarded priority status" in the area of biodiversity.

The activities developed by NetBiome-CSA, being specifically adapted to the needs and priorities identified by different partners, will contribute to improving governance at the level of research and innovation as well as to coordinating research efforts with public needs.

The NetBiome partnership, which was started in 2007, also aims to strengthen the biodiversity strategy of the European Union by increasing the involvement and international visibility of the outermost regions and of overseas countries and territories.
