Most of the players of the Série Açores of soccer 2007/2008 are trained in the Region

Most of the players that participated in the last season of the Série Açores of the national soccer championship of III Division received athletic training in the Region.

Data of the Regional Directorate for Sport (DRD) indicate that of the 256 players distributed by ten teams, 184, in other words, 71,9 percent, were trained in the archipelago.

In the course of the 2007/2008 season, there competed two teams exclusively composed by players who, till 18 years old, completed four years of training as athletes federated in representation of clubs with seat in the Region.

Altogether 44 teams with athletes trained in the Azores participated in the tournaments of national level during the last athletic season, 16 in volleyball, 13 in soccer, five in table tennis, four in basketball, three in roller hockey (quad), two in futsal and one in handball, respectively.

For competitive level, with exclusion of the competitions of professional character, the athletes trained in the Azorean clubs represented 43 percent in the superior degree, 57 percent in the intermediate degree and 65 percent in the last competitive level.
