Ponta Delgada ,  December 28, 2017

Government of the Azores ensures that about 2,000 teachers will progress in their career as early as 2018

The Regional Secretary for Education and Culture revealed in Ponta Delgada that, as of January 1, about 2,000 teachers in the Azores will be comprised by the measures to ensure their progression in the teaching career.

Speaking to journalists at the end of a hearing requested by the Teachers' Union of the Azores, Avelino Meneses assured that the Regional Budget "safeguards" career advancements.

The Regional Secretary for Education emphasised the "understanding" reached between both parties, adding that there are, however, "detailed questions" that need to be further evaluated and for which the "best solutions" will be found.

As for the negotiations on the resumption of progression in the teaching career, Avelino Meneses pointed out that, as the President of the Government assured on November 21, the Region will fully adopt "the solution established at national level," following the ongoing negotiations between the Ministry of Education and the representatives of teachers' unions.

The government official also ensured "equal" treatment in the requests for the scheduling of meetings or hearings with teachers' unions.
