Day of the Azores marked at the 84th Lisbon Book Fair

The Government of the Azores promotes several cultural events to mark the Day of the Azores on Monday, June 9, in the context of the Azorean participation in the 84th Lisbon Book Fair, which is being held at Eduardo VII Park.

The day that marks "Azoreanity" and the Regional Autonomy will be celebrated, starting at 6 PM, with the presentation of the film "Viagem Autonómica" by Filipe Tavares and Nuno Costa Santos at the auditorium of the Association of Portuguese Publishers and Booksellers.

The programme also includes an autograph session with Maria Tomás, author of the book "Insulamento," at the Azores Culture Pavilion at 7 PM and the performance of "Corsário das Ilhas" University Music Group at Praça Laranja at 9 PM. The event will be attended by the Regional Directors for Culture, Nuno Lopes, and Tourism, João Bettencourt.

The Azores Culture Pavilion promotes and disseminates works by Azorean authors or that address Azorean themes. This year, it is installed in the largest area ever, having sold two thousand Euros in publications to date.

The three stands that make up the Azores pavilion have been promoting publications by Regional Directorate for Culture as well as by several entities: Azores Tourism Association; Azorina; Regional Centre for Handicrafts; Azores Institute of Culture, Ponta Delgada Cultural Institute; Terceira Historical Institute; Horta Cultural Centre; municipalities of Ribeira Grande and Santa Cruz da Graciosa; University of the Azores; "Os Montanheiros" Association; "Amigos dos Açores" Association; Blu Edições; Companhia das Ilhas; Publiçor; Turiscom - Turismo e Comércio; Ver Açor; Yolanda Corsépius; Jorge Barros-Produções Audiovisuais and Vento Encanado Produções.

An initiative of the Association of Portuguese Publishers and Booksellers, the 84th Lisbon Book Fair features 250 pavilions representing over 500 publishers.
The organisation of the fair, which started on May 29, estimates over half a million visitors by June 15, the last day of the event.

The Azores Culture Pavilion may be visited from Monday to Friday and on the eve of holidays from 12:30 PM to 12 AM; Saturdays from 11 AM to 12 AM; Sundays and holidays from 11 AM to 11 PM.
