Angra do Heroísmo ,  September 15, 2011

Cláudia Cardoso encourages schools to reward the merit of students

The Regional Secretary for Education and Training encouraged yesterday Azorean schools to follow the example of Jerónimo Emiliano de Andrade Secondary School and reward the success of their students.

Cláudia Cardoso spoke at the ceremony to award prizes to the top students of the Angra do Heroísmo Secondary School, stressing that the new student statute will allow and encourage, given its positive results, “the dissemination of this initiative in other schools because  there are also good students in other schools whose work should be acknowledged.”

For the Regional Secretary for Education and Training, “recognition is an important part, we cannot underrate it: the self-recognition of our work as well as the recognition by others.”

The government official stated that this ceremony, held at the Angra do Heroísmo Secondary School, was intended to “reward the work, effort and dedication,” being “something priceless these days that will make all the difference in your future.”

Mentioning the existence of very good students in all regional schools, Cláudia Cardoso recalled, however, that “sometimes we tend to focus on the problems.”

With this ceremony, the Angra do Heroísmo Secondary School continues to set “the example of how it should be done and how should be emphasised the positive aspects that might have impact” as “these students, due to their efforts, are already at an advanced level compared to the remaining students, and therefore have better conditions for making other achievements throughout life.”

The Secretary for Education said that in “a country that focuses too much on negative issues, I think this is clearly a positive moment.”
