The Government of the Azores has started today the distribution of about 13 thousand Magalhães computers to the elementary school students in the Region, under the e-escolinha project.

The first computers were delivered to the students from the Tomás Borba Vieira School in Angra do Heroísmo, with the presence of the Regional Secretary for Education and Training, Lina Mendes, and of the National Secretary for Public Works, Transportation and Communications, Paulo Campos.

The Regions’ investment in this project surpasses one million Euros, with the acquisition of mobile Internet cards and the purchase of 800 laptops to equip all classrooms for teacher use. It is an exclusive initiative in the Azores, as this has occurred neither in Madeira nor in Mainland Portugal.

The e-escolinha programme, promoted by the Government in a joint partnership with the telecommunication operators, aims to provide computers to the elementary school students, which are specifically developed for their needs.

The distribution of the Magalhães computer in every school of the Archipelago will be concluded during the next days.
