Lagoa Secondary School on S. Miguel Island participates in European debate on videogames in education

The Lagoa Secondary School on S. Miguel Island is participating in a project under the Erasmus programme - Cooperation for Innovation and Exchange of Good Practices developed in cooperation with several European educational institutions. It aims to analyse, among other aspects, the importance of videogames in education.

In this context, the Lagoa Secondary School, under the coordination of teacher João Freitas, welcomed last week representatives from Scotland, Greece and Germany, who are participating in the development of that European project, designated as "Project Level."

The works included sessions with students enrolled in the Computer Technician course that provided, on the one hand, the knowledge on the development of a videogame and, on the other hand, the experience of experimentation and collaboration, through tests and ideas, in a game under construction.

In addition to a group of teachers from Lagoa Secondary School, this Erasmus+ project involved the participation of Rasmus Pechuel, Ingenious Knowledge CEO, Tim Kreuzberg, programmer at Ingenious Knowledge, Marc Beutner, professor at the University of Paderborn, Spyridon Blastsios and Ilias Batzogiannis, teachers at Platon Schools in Katerini, and David Farrell, professor at Glasgow Caledonian University.

At a time when new technologies are being increasingly integrated into the teaching and learning process, those in charge of this project believe it can give some hints on the use videogames in teaching practices and in promotion of student development.
