The Regional Phase of MegaSprinter 2016/2017 runs Friday and Saturday, March 3 and 4, at Alagoa Stadium in Horta. It will involve the participation of 101 athletes, aged between 9 and 15 years.
 
Promoted by the Government of the Azores, through the Regional Directorate for Sport, the event features the participation of 61 athletes from Faial and the remaining 40 coming from other islands of the archipelago, with the exception of Santa Maria and Corvo.
 
For the 12th consecutive year, the Regional Directorate for Sport promotes the development of School Sport with a project associated to ProSucesso. It is intended to increase the offer of physical activities in school context and select the Region's representatives for the National Phase of MegaSprinter, which will take place in Elvas on March 31 and April 1.
 
The winners of all levels (male/female) will be selected to the National Phase, provided they reach the minimum score, according to the project rules.
 
After the competition, participants of MegaSprinter 2016/2017 will visit the Capelinhos Interpretation Centre.
