The Regional phase of the Sports School Games for the 5th and 6th forms has started in the city of Horta today, with the participation of 250 students and teachers from the Islands of Faial, Pico, Terceira and of S. Miguel.
Teams representing the Horta Basic Education School (the organising school), the Lajes do Pico Basic Education and Secondary School, the Arrifes Basic Education School, the Roberto Ivens Basic Education School and the Tomás Borba Vieira Basic Education and Secondary School, which have made through the several phases of these games, will take part in the tournament that will take place until Saturday.
The Sports School Games comprise football, volleyball, basketball, skating and track and field. This year, the games will celebrate its 20th edition under the theme “20 anos com vivência” (20 years of fellowship).
In addition, recreational and socio-cultural activities will take place, such as the visits of the participating teams to the Capelinhos Volcano Interpretation Centre in Capelo and the visit to the Medieval Fair which is being held in the grounds of the Horta Basic Education School tonight.
The Sport School Games are an initiative of the Regional Directorate for Sports, counting upon the organisation of the Horta Basic Education School and of the Faial Sports Service.
