Regional Adapted Track and Field/Intellectual Disabilities Championship sets new records
15 regional and 1 national records were set at the Regional Adapted Track and Field/ Intellectual Disabilities Championship that took place on São Miguel last weekend, counting upon the participation of 68 athletes.
At the present moment, the Azores hold three national records, which were achieved by Maria Luísa Câmara, from the Laranjeiras Club, - Down Syndrome/ Javelin - 7.42 meters, Hugo Moniz, from APACDAA – Down Syndrome/ Javelin (600 gr) - 23.66 meters and by Pedro Eleutério, from ACM, - 1000 meters – 3:01:96.
The Regional Adapted Track and Field/ Intellectual Disabilities Championship demonstrated an evolution in the quality of the athletes’ performance, thus confirming the good work carried out by clubs in their daily training activities and competitions.
Regarding the 68 athletes that participated in this championship, 43 were from São Miguel, 14 from Terceira, 7 from Pico and 4 from Santa Maria, representing the following clubs: Association of Parents and Friends of Disabled Children in the Azores (APACDAA), Entertainment and Recreation Sports Club (CDAR), “Associação Cristã Mocidade” (ACM), Laranjeiras Club (LC), “Casa de Sáude de S. Rafael” (CSSR), “Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Madalena” (SCMM), “Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Vila do Porto” (SCMVP) and the Sports Group of the “Casa do Povo” of Ribeira Grande (GDCPRG).
It is important to mention the achieved records which constitute a reference at national competition:
Pedro Eleutério ACM - 1000 meters Adapted Competition - 3:04:15
Nuno Ferreira CDAR – Javelin/Adapted Competition - 27.53 meters
Jorge Lourenço ACM - Long jump/ Adapted Competition - 4.92 meters
Luís Silva Madalena SCM - 4kg weight/Adapted competition - 9.24 meters.
