Regional Director for Culture participates in the annual meeting of the Whaling Heritage Advisory Commission

The Regional Director for Culture, Dr. Jorge Bruno, will attend the annual meeting of the Whaling Heritage Advisory Commission which will take place at the Auditorium of the Whaling Museum in Lajes do Pico on February 23 at 8 PM.

The Whaling Heritage Executive Commission, which is made up by the Director of the Pico Museum, the Head of the Administrative Division of the Regional Directorate for Culture, a member of the Clube Naval de São Roque do Pico and by Mr. António Manuel Garcia Machado, will meet on the same day at the same venue at 3 PM. This Commission is in charge of preparing the works and documents to be analysed by the Advisory Commission.

In turn, the Advisory Commission is composed, in addition to the Regional Director for Culture, by public and private entities in charge of managing the regional whaling heritage in the Azores: Nautical Clubs, Municipalities and Associations. This work group will analyse, discuss and deliberate on all matters that concern the recovery of the regional whaling heritage. The decisions taken by this Commission - whose legal scope is exclusively deliberative - will be subject to the approval of the Regional Director for Culture.

Since the entry into force of the legislation establishing the support awarded by the Regional Government, through the Regional Whaling Heritage Commission (Regional Legislative Decree no. 13/1998/A of August 4), several entities and vessels have been supported, making a total of 41 whaling boats and 11 motor boats.
