Pico Museum opens "CoMTradição - Azores Handicrafts Award" exhibition

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through the Pico Museum, will open the exhibition titled "CoMTradição, Azores Handicrafts Award" at the Whaling Industry Museum in São Roque do Pico next Friday at 8:30 PM.

Promoted by the Regional Centre for Handicrafts, the exhibition aims to honour the Pico artisans Conceição and Alzira Neves with the awarding the "CoMTradição" prize.

In addition to the delivery of the prize, this tribute also features a retrospective exhibition and the publication of a catalogue that will become an important historiographical and bibliographical reference; the latter is also a way of acknowledging and bringing attention to the work of the twin sisters.

The work and action of Conceição and Alzira Neves play a relevant role in the recovery of traditions, with special emphasis on the strategy to preserve and expand the cultural identity of the Azores, through the Santo Amaro Craft School, which they founded on Pico in 1986.

The two sisters have helped to disseminate, preserve and keep alive the legacy of various crafts, always promoting the creativity and aesthetics of their craft works and without neglecting the centuries-old craft traditions of Pico Island.

The exhibition will be open to the public until the end of February. It may be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 9:15 AM -12:30 PM and 1:30 PM - 5 PM, and from 9:15 AM to 12:30 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
