Olga Roriz Company presents “Electra and The Rite of Spring” at the Teatro Micaelense
Under the Music Season in the Azores, the Olga Roriz Company presents “Electra and The Rite of Spring” at the Teatro Micaelense on October 23 at 9:30 PM.
Electra was created by chorographer Olga Roriz, who will also be the performer. Premiered on January 28, 2010 at the Teatro Camões, Electra, “a woman eerily present in her absence,” according to Olga Roriz, is a mysterious and impulsive character that will reveal herself amidst disconnected scenes, exposing the contradictory feelings that characterise human complexity.
The Rite of Spring premiered on May 29, 1913at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysees in Paris where the music by Igor Stravinsky (composed for the Ballet Russes of Sergei Diaghilev) and Nijinsky’s choreography marked the beginning of modernism, causing a revolution and a real scandal in the French capital at the time. Precisely 97 years later, Olga Roriz presented her choreography at the Belém Cultural centre on May 29.
Founded in 1995 and directed by choreographer Olga Roriz, this Company has established itself as a national and international reference in Portuguese contemporary dance. The professionalism, creativity, in addition to research and experimentation, have turned the Olga Roriz Company into a source of inspiration for young performers and choreographers.
The 2010 Music Season is an initiative of the Presidency of the Azores Regional Government carried out by the Regional Directorate of Culture, under the artistic direction of Emanuel Frazão, and it is co-produced by the Portuguese Musical Youth.
