Journal of the Portuguese Architects' Association dedicates May issue to Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre
The Gyptec Journal, published by the Portuguese Architects' Association, dedicates its May issue #4 to Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre.
In this issue, architect Manuel Graça Dias writes about this Arts Centre in an article entitled "Cidadela Culta" (Cult Citadel), conducting an in-depth analysis on the project, which he considers a case of smart and sensitive recovery of an industrial heritage building.
Manuel Graça Dias, who visited Arquipélago last April, expresses his opinion when he writes: "...having finished the visit and browsing at the elegant shop the many catalogues and publications about various events hosted by the Centre, we are, after all, led to believe that 'heritage' and 'recovery' in architecture may be concepts that are still full of ambiguities."
"When they are regarded in this context, an open, inventive, discrete and cult approach that dialogues with what currently exists and with the full desire of interrogating, improving and perfecting it and when they become strong arguments for a healthy understanding of the very idea of "recovery," they will certainly have a strong educational potential. Then, it will be up to us to promote and celebrate as an example," says the article.
