Coral de São José and Francisco de Lacerda Classical Orchestra pay tribute to Europe
In the context of the celebrations of the programme of the Azores: European Region of the year 2010, The Coral de São José and the Francisco de Lacerda Classical Orchestra pay tribute to Europe by performing Beethoven’s 9th symphony and the EU anthem “Ode to Joy” at the Teatro Micaelense next Sunday at 5 PM.
This concert is an initiative of the Government of the Azores which aims to provide a unique moment to enjoy one of the most famous symphonies by the German composer, whose “last movement” was chosen to be the EU anthem. “Ode to Joy” was based on a poem written by Friedrich von Schiller 1785 “that expresses Schiller’s idealistic vision that was shared by Beethoven, in which humanity is united by fraternity.”
The concert, which will be held on Sunday, counts upon the participation of the Francisco de Lacerda Classical Orchestra, conducted Maestro César Viana; the participation of this orchestra is integrated in the activity plan developed by the Regional Directorate of Culture with the purpose of disseminating and enhancing this musical project.
In addition to the performance of the Coral de São José under the artistic direction of Luís Filipe Carreiro, this concert also counts upon the participation of soloists Sandra Medeiros, soprano; Luísa de Freitas, Mezzo-Soprano; Mário Alves, Tenor; and Luís Rodrigues, Baritone.
Tickets are already available for 15 Euros at the box office of the Teatro Micaelense.
