The contract work for the renewal of the Boqueirão Factory on Flores Island was awarded to the company Somague Ediçor Engenharia S.A.
The work, with a budget of 945 thousand Euros and with a period of performance of 210 days, will enable the renewal of the old Boqueirão whale factory and its adaptation to become a Museum.
This awarding will make possible the recreation of a representative space about the importance of whaling in the Archipelago and particularly on Flores.
The adaptation of the factory to a museum will enable the public to have a direct contact with the activity which was once developed in that place, mainly the cutting of sperm whales, as well as the processing of the various products extracted from them, for their subsequent use in several craft and industrial sectors.
