Ponta Delgada ,  March 17, 2010

Concert by Lisa Ekhdal in Ponta Delgada on March 28, integrated in the programme of the Azores as European Region of the Year 2010

The Swedish artist Lisa Ekdhal will travel to Ponta Delgada to perform a concert at the Teatro Micaelense on March, 28 at 9:30 PM. This concert is integrated in the programme of the Azores as European Region of the year 2010, and coordinated by the Secretary of the Presidency, André Bradford, who considers that this is a “unique opportunity to enjoy the work, the talent and the performance of the Swedish artist, as he reminded the government’s concern of providing the Azoreans with a cultural, eclectic and quality programme during this year.

Lisa Ekdahl with her soft and fragile voice is one of the names of the new generation of female singers whose style includes pop, folk and jazz music with influences of Bossa Nova.

Often compared to artists such as Norah Jones, Diana Krall, Stacey Kent and Jane Monheit, this singer has already recorded ten albums and has been distinguished with three Swedish Grammys.

She started singing jazz with the Peter Nordahl trio. At the age of 23, she released her debut album and became famous overnight in Sweden, reaching quadruple platinum after a few months. She was awarded three Swedish Grammys.

Her latest album, “Give me that slow knowing smile,” acclaimed throughout Europe and she was nominated once more to the Grammys in Sweden.

Ekdahl’s voice has won thousands of admirers throughout Europe, especially with the recordings of the “standard” North-American repertoire with the Peter Nordahl trio in the album “When Did You Leave Heaven.”

Later, she recorded two pop albums: “Med Kroppen Mot Jorden”and "Borton Det Bla" in 1996 and 1997, respectively.

In 1999, she met a considerable success with the album “Back to Earth,” containing jazz “standards,” the second to be recorded in English. Following the release of the album, some of her songs were chosen by German choreographer Pina Bausch, who included them in her performances in Lisbon.

Recently, Lisa Ekdahl has returned to her original creations, working with the songwriter and guitarist, Salvadore Poe. The creation of a pop sound with Bossa nova influences are now her priority.

Composer and lyricist, Lisa Ekdhal sings in Swedish and English. She was in Portugal by last time in November 2008, where she performed at the Centro Cultural de Belém, the Casa da Música do Porto and at the Cine Teatro de Alcobaça.

Tickets will be sold at the Box Office of the Teatro Micaelense, starting nest Thursday, during its regular operating hours.
