Carlos Machado Museum opens two exhibitions in partnership with Walk&Talk arts festival

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Carlos Machado Museum, will open Saturday, July 6, two exhibitions under the Walk&Talk - Arts Festival Exhibition Cycle titled "Limbo" by Gonçalo Preto and "Receptacle" by Rita GT; both are curated by Sérgio Fazenda Rodrigues.

The opening of the "Receptacle" exhibition begins at 5:45 PM with a performance that begins at the Ponta Delgada City Hall square and ends at the Santo André Centre of Carlos Machado Museum. In turn, the "Limbo" exhibition will open at 7 PM at the latter venue.

In "Receptacle", Rita GT reinterprets the traditional components of a procession, reflecting on its functioning, elements and organisation, while praising the female dimension condition and rethinking the patriarchal structure that underlies this type of manifestations.

The performance involves several agents from the local community and develops a choreography that is accompanied by a musical moments that include singing and percussion. It also embraces a new visual identity that will be portrayed in the banners and garments.

Moreover, the work also features the exhibition of a video at the Carlos Machado Museum, where the construction of the pieces in a pottery workshop is documented as well as its use in the procession that passed along the streets of Ponta Delgada.

In turn, the "Limbo" exhibition stems from an investigation to the historical herbaria belonging to the collections of the Carlos Machado Museum.

In the scope of this research, the exhibition focuses on synecology. It is a field dedicated to analysing the behaviours of biological communities or the relations between the individuals of different species and the environment in which they live.

Both exhibitions are the result of a one-year research process in the context of the Artistic Residencies promoted by the Walk&Talk festival.

The Walk&Talk Exhibition Circuit creates an itinerary for the public presentation of various individual projects. They will be presented simultaneously in various spaces of Ponta Delgada by artists Andreia Santana, Gonçalo Preto, Maria Trabulo, Rita GT, Mónica de Miranda, Miguel C. Tavares & José Alberto Gomes and Diana Vidrascu.

These works are the result of the residencies held in the Azores between 2017 and 2019. Under the projects presented, Ponta Delgada was the chosen place for the coexistence of public and private venues, museum areas and vacant buildings, bringing to the surface the contemporary artistic creation of the city's urban and plural mesh.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events may be consulted in the Cultural Agenda of CulturAçores Portal at the following address: www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
