Azores participate in Iberian Cultural Heritage Biennial

In the context of the celebrations of the European Year of Cultural Heritage, the Azores will be at the 11th Iberian Cultural Heritage Biennial to be held in Valladolid, Spain, between November 8 and 11. This year's editions will be dedicated to the theme of Heritage Management.
 
The Azores representation, through the Regional Directorate for Culture, under the administration of the Regional Secretariat for Education and Culture, seeks to increase the visibility of the Azores Culture in the international market, namely in the Spanish market.
 
Organised in partnership with the Regional Directorate for Culture and the Junta of Castile and León, this Biennial aims to promote and enhance the visibility the Cultural Heritage by bringing together various agents working in this area.
 
The Regional Directorate for Culture participates with an institutional stand. It will display the visual identity created for the European Year of Cultural Heritage with the aim of promoting the eight regional museums, the Corvo Ecomuseum and Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre.
 
Alluding to the "Islands of Culture" imagery, this common visual identity explores images related to the community, territory and landscape in coordination with various forms cultural expression, from literature to music without forgetting traditional arts and crafts.
 
The visual narrative begins with a selection of iconic pieces from each space, being complemented by various keywords that inspire and invite everyone to visit the cultural infrastructures.
 
On November 9, Helena Martelo, senior technician at the Regional Directorate for Culture, will present the Artistic Residency "Heritage as a Source of Inspiration," a project developed by architect Joaquim Oliveira at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre under the European Year of Cultural Heritage. It resulted in the creation of a piece titled as "Landmark," which is on display in the central courtyard of this Arts Centre and may be visited during the month of November.
 
In addition to the cultural stands, the Iberian Cultural Heritage Biennial features several activities, such as workshops, debates, lectures, round tables, documentary screenings and the delivery of the AR&PA 2018 awards. The cultural programme also includes activities for the public in general, families and young people, namely concerts, guided tours and heritage education activities.
