Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre promotes "Terra Incógnita" artistic residency

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes an artistic residency under the title "Terra Incógnita" from November 16 to December 5. It is the first to be launched by International Open Call.

By the end of the year, Arquipélago, located in Ribeira Grande on the island of S. Miguel, will launch another two residencies: "Salutem: à tua saúde" and "Marca Arquipélago."

With "Terra Incógnita" artistic residency, Arquipélago intends that artists mark the islands through a look at 21st century by rediscovering an artistic vision map.

The starting point of this initiative is to make artists develop a work having as reference the historical, social, cultural, economic and geographic context.

In the field of visual and media arts, the Open Call is addressed to three national and international artists, who will reside in the archipelago for one month between March and May 2017; each artist will reside in one of the following islands: S. Miguel, Terceira and Flores.

"Terra Incógnita" is aimed at the creation and production of an artistic work, which will be displayed at Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre by June 2017 under the curatorship of Carolina Grau.

The jury is composed of the following members: Fátima Marques Pereira, director of Arquipélago, Duarte Melo, director of Carlos Machado Museum, Filipa Oliveira, artistic director of Eugénio de Almeida Forum, Maria José Cavaco, artist, and Carolina Grau, curator. The selected artists will be announced until December 31.

For further information, namely on the rules, jury and registration forms for this artistic residency, those who are interested should consult the website of Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre on the artistic residencies and Open Call segment. This initiative has established partnerships with Carlos Machado Museum and Ponta Delgada Public Library and Regional Archive.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events are available for consultation at the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the electronic address www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
