Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre promotes “Marca Arquipélago" artistic residency

The Regional Directorate for Culture, through Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre, promotes a regional open call for registration in "Marca Arquipélago" Artistic Residency. The application period runs from November 21 to December 5.

Addressed to Azoreans designers, this initiative will run for a month in 2017. It aims to encourage artists to create quality design products that reflect the connections to multiple aspects associated with the geographical, historical and cultural specificities of the Azores.

This artistic residency launches the challenge for the creation and production of objects in the areas of Communication Design and Equipment, inspired in the identity of the Azorean islands, through a contemporary look.

These products will be on display at the Shop of Arquipélago Centre, making it a showcase of Portuguese design pieces depicting the essence of the identity of the regional territory.

During the residency, artists will use 100% Azorean products in the area of Equipment Design. In turn, the Communication Design references will be based on the graphic elements of the archipelago's cartography and the iconography of regional flora and fauna.

The jury is composed of the following members: Raquel Teves, responsible for the management and maintenance of Arquipélago, Carlos Marques, president of the Azores Office of the Portuguese Architects' Association, and Frederico Almeida, creative director of Visual Kitchen. The results will be announced on December 31.

For further information, namely on the rules, jury and registration forms for this artistic residency, those who are interested should consult the website of Arquipélago - Contemporary Arts Centre on the artistic residencies and Open Call segment.

The Regional Directorate for Culture informs that this and other events are available for consultation at the Cultural Agenda of the CulturAçores Portal at the electronic address www.culturacores.azores.gov.pt.
