Angra do Heroísmo ,  January 02, 2013

Angra do Heroísmo Museum presents several exhibitions in January

The Angra do Heroísmo Museum will hold several temporary exhibitions throughout January in addition to the organisation of a workshop promoted by the Educational Services.

An exhibition titled "Aparência e Quotidiano" (Appearance and Everyday Life) will be open to the public at the Chapter Room until January 19. This exhibition promotes a reflection on the processes of acquiring/making clothes as well as on the domestic textiles used in everyday life, the care we take with them and the way how we reuse them; it also questions how such habits can be regarded in light of the contemporary concept of sustainability.

The Angra do Heroísmo Museum also presents the video installation "O Carnaval é um Palco, a Ilha uma Festa" (Carnival is a Stage, the Island a Party) by Rui Mourão. The exhibition, which may be visited until February 12, mingles anthropology and installation art; the author attempts to depict the collective transfiguration process of an island that is cyclically transformed into a stage.

In turn, the exhibition "Seminário de Angra: o Coração da Diocese" (Angra Seminary: the Heart of the Diocese) depicts the history of an institution through pieces, texts and images and will be open to the public at the Highlights Room. The Seminary has dedicated itself to the human formation of the Azorean population as well as to their religious, cultural and academic education for over 150 years.

The exhibition "Lacerda:(Geo)Grafias da Memória" (Lacerda: Geographies of Memory) celebrates the release of the CD "Francisco Lacerda (1869-1934): the legacy of the maestro" may be visited at the same room until June 2. It consists of several documents, including letters, written dedications, photographs, texts and drawings that evidence Lacerda's acquaintance with important artists and scholars of his time.

The Museum's Educational Services will promote a workshop titled "Livro de Horas" (Book of Hours), where Mariana Almeida will teach the techniques of bookbinding by folding and sewing at sessions for children and adults. This initiative will take place next Saturday from 2 PM to 5:30 PM. Participation in this workshop is subject to previous scheduling.
