The 2010 Music Season, an initiative of the Regional Directorate of Culture, presents a recital for voice and piano featuring soprano Lara Martins and pianist João Paulo Santos at the Capitães Generais Palace in Angra do Heroísmo on September 11 at 9:30 PM. The programme is divided into two parts; the first is dedicated to the French song, also known as romance or Mélodie and the second to repertoire by Italian composers G. Martucci and O. Respeghi.
The French song by R. Hahn, J. Massenet and L. Vierne was highly influenced by romanticism and later by symbolism, covering the second half of the 19th century and early 20th century with songs by L. Vierne that integrate the Spleens and Détresses cycle (1916).
Soprano Lara Martins won the 9th Estoril Interpretation Competition and completed her studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a scholarship holder of the Calouste Gulbenkian. She has also performed in several operas, having toured in the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland.
Pianist João Paulo Santos, awarded with the “Acarte 2000” Prize, has developed an intense activity as conductor and musical director of the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos.
The 2010 Music Season is an initiative of the Presidency of the Azores Regional Government carried out by the Regional Directorate of Culture, under the artistic direction of Emanuel Frazão, and it is co-produced by the Portuguese Musical Youth.
