Triton World Series reaches the Azores in October as another Regional Government's investment in international sporting events

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism announced in Lisbon that the Triton World Series will take place in the Azores between October 17 and 21. The event falls within the Regional Government's investment in international sporting events that promote the archipelago as "a privileged place for the practice of activities that live up to our concept of active nature tourism."

Marta Guerreiro spoke at the presentation of the race, which includes swimming, cycling and running competitions. According to her, it will cover the municipalities of Ponta Delgada, Ribeira Grande and Vila Franca do Campo on the island of São Miguel, "being the first of a new world circuit that will include the Azores stage."

"Given their media coverage, size and geographic reach, these events promote the best of our tourism resources and products, leading us to market niches that interest us for their potential to generate flows throughout the year," stressed the Secretary for Tourism.

For Marta Guerreiro, "this event plays a key role in influencing the external projection of the destination, while increasing tourism flows during the low season. It will contribute to the mitigation of seasonality that still affects the archipelago and, in this context, the Government will remain committed to work on this priority goal."

The Regional Secretary stated that the event's organisation expects the participation of "about 2,500 people, including athletes and all those accompanying them, and an estimated average stay of four days. The event will have a significant direct and indirect impact on tourism services as well as on local economies."

"The continuous investment of the Regional Government in these events has been a wise investment," stated Marta Guerreiro." As she emphasised, this investment has become a reality in recent years "with the strengthening of our identity as a tourist destination focused on the active and experience-based fruition of our environmental, cultural and social heritage."
