Regional Government ensures support to the Azores Rallye for another three years

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated today in Ponta Delgada that the Regional Government will ensure support to the Azores Rallye for another three years, through a multi-annual contract.

Marta Guerreiro spoke at the signing of the contract-programme with Grupo Desportivo Comercial, the organiser of the event. On the occasion, she pointed out that the establishment of a multi-annual contract, amounting to 600 thousand Euros per year, will give "more stability" to Grupo Desportivo Comercial regarding the organisation and promotion of one of the "most important" sporting events taking place in the Azores.

According to the Secretary for Tourism, it is yet another example of the commitment to "attracting initiatives with a high level of external tourism promotion." This effort has been carried out by the Government over the last few years as it contributes to the consolidation of the destination's visibility through promotion and increase of tourism flows.

The Azores Rallye, stressed Marta Guerreiro, is already considered "a classic" in the regional sporting events calendar worldwide, projecting the Azores "with a very strong promotional component abroad" in this sports segment.

Marta Guerreiro stressed that this event showcases many images of the Azores at an international level, highlighting "our unique landscapes and our specific features in terms of environmental heritage."

In this context, he highlighted the millions of views through the coverage of this event by the world's largest sports multimedia platform, Eurosport, reaching more than 150 million homes in fifty countries.

"The organisation of the event continues to contribute to the economic dynamics of the Azores, contributing to the increase of tourism flows and generating wealth, especially outside the peak season," added the government official.

According to Marta Guerreiro, it is important to encourage all events that will "generate more flows and enhance the promotion of the archipelago."

The 55th Azores Rallye will take place on São Miguel Island from 26 to 28 March. Once again, it will be the opening event of the European Rally Championship calendar.
