"Preserving nature is a mission of all Azoreans," says Marta Guerreiro

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated today that preserving nature is "a mission of all Azoreans," ensuring that the Government maintains a work of continuity regarding environmental awareness.

"In the Azores, the importance of nature conservation is indisputable, given its environmental, social and economic importance for our islands. This is clearly visible in the Regional Government's that has a service department exclusively dedicated to these matter," said Marta Guerreiro. She spoke at the end of a visit to the headquarters of the Nature Conservation and Environmental Awareness Service Department under the Regional Government's statutory visit to Pico.

For the government official, "the preservation of habitats, flora and fauna species, natural landscape, water quality and waste management are priority matters and crucial factors in maintaining the environmental quality that characterises the archipelago, making it increasingly a destination of excellence for those who love nature."

The Regional Secretary reminded that the National Nature Conservation Day will be celebrated Friday, July 28th, which will be marked in the Azores with a series of initiatives in all Environmental Centres through a challenge that will challenge visitors to adopt an endemic plant.

"We are promoting the concept of sustainability in all its components and, specifically on this day, we will focus on initiatives in which the civil society is an integral part of preserving the environmental heritage of the Azores," said Marta Guerreiro.

For the government official, environmental quality is a mission that must be shared by all, seeing that "changing habits through sustainable practices is crucial to the maintenance of a healthy planet and to ensure the survival and comfort of present and future generations."
