Marta Guerreiro says Triangle Trail Running Adventure "enhances complementarity of tourism on Triangle Islands"

The Regional Secretary for Energy, Environment and Tourism stated today that the 5th Triangle Trail Running Adventure is "an example of how trail running enhances the complementarity of tourism on the Triangle islands (Pico, Faial and São Jorge), through the diversity of trails spread throughout Faial, Pico and São Jorge."

"There are not many places in the world where it is possible to organise a three-stage test for three consecutive days and on three different islands with a rich and lively landscape," stated Marta Guerreiro. She spoke on Pico Island during the event presentation session held in a protected area within the vineyard cultural landscape, precisely one of the places covered by this competition.

The fifth edition of the Triangle Trail Running Adventure takes place on the islands of Pico, São Jorge and Faial, between October 4 and 6.

"The first stage takes place on this island, covering precisely the place where we are now, stretching over a 28-kilometre route between the town of Madalena and the highest point of the country - the great mountain of Pico," stated the Secretary for Tourism. On the second day, "the event will take place on the island of São Jorge between the hamlet of São Tomé in Calheta and Fajã dos Cubres."

"On the last day, the competition begins on the island of Faial in another emblematic place of our archipelago, the Capelinhos Volcano, and ends in the centre of the city of Horta," revealed Marta Guerreiro.

According to the government official, the Vineyard to the Mountain Trail, the Fajãs Trail and the Volcanoes Marathon are "the perfect combination for trail run lovers in terms of active nature, adventure, strong emotions, which can only be found in a unique and authentic place such as our islands."

"This is another example of our ability to attract market segments that visit our destination for the ideal conditions we offer for the practice of sports and other activities at any time of the year," stated the Regional Secretary.

Marta Guerreiro stressed that the Regional Government has "pursued a policy focused on initiatives with effective promotional return or with positive impact on the influx of tourists throughout the year, something that is quite evident in this initiative."

"Trail run is a win-win as far as it is an opportunity for the Azores to distinguish themselves by their nature, ensuring not only a positive direct impact arising from the participation of a large number of participants but also the consolidated positioning with relevant market segments," said the Regional Secretary.

With the organisation of Ilha Azul Independent Athletics Club, besides the Triangle Trail Running Adventure, trail run competitions have already taken place on Santa Maria and Faial this year, followed by Flores and Corvo on September 14 and 15, and Graciosa on November 30.
