The Azores trails are available on the Portuguese Trails online platform, featuring information and contents in five languages. This tool presents itself as a privileged means of communication in international markets for companies and entities involved in the project.
The inclusion of the Region in this platform led by Tourism of Portugal, through the collaboration with the Azorean Government, promotes the regional of network of hiking trails as one of the main products associated with the active Nature.
Trails are an anchor tool not only for walking activities but also for cycling, given the existence of various cycling routes on the islands of Pico, Terceira, Santa Maria and São Miguel. This has allowed the Region to create the Biking Azores event.
In addition to the information available on this network of hiking and cycling routes, the platform also provides information of 19 accommodation units and 31 programmes offered by companies: 10 cycling programmes and 21 walking trail programmes.
In a single platform, users may find information about the existing trails in the Azores on foot or by bicycle. They will also have access to information about accommodation, activities, shops, workshops as well as suggestions of local experiences mainly directed to cyclists and hikers.
In addition to the Azores, the platform also includes information on the regions of Algarve, Centro and Alentejo, making up 25 cycling routes and 379 walking routes.
The Azores currently have 674 kilometres of approved trails: 78 Small Routes and 5 Grand Routes included in the Regional Network of Hiking Trails.
